Researchers are studying an online eight-week mindful parenting program designed for parents of adolescents with special educational needs (SEN). The study aims to evaluate how this program affects parents' wellbeing and the behaviors of their SEN adolescents. The research also explores the impact of mindful parenting on reducing parental stress and improving parent-child interactions during the challenging adolescent transition period. Participants will be randomly assigned to either start the mindful parenting program immediately or join a waitlist control group that receives the program later. The program involves eight weekly group sessions lasting 2 to 2.5 hours each, including guided mindfulness practices tailored to parents of SEN adolescents. After completing the sessions, participants will attend one follow-up session about two months later to assess lasting effects. Throughout the study, parents will complete questionnaires at the beginning, after the intervention, and at follow-up to measure stress, mindfulness in parenting, expressed emotions, and their children's behaviors. Researchers will also analyze audio recordings and transcripts of the group sessions and participants’ shared experiences. The study will monitor changes over a total period of 16 weeks, focusing on the wellbeing of both parents and their children.
