What this Trial Is About

Orthodontic patients often find it difficult to maintain good oral hygiene due to fixed braces that increase plaque buildup and cause gum inflammation. This research evaluates how effective a mobile oral health program using WhatsApp messages is compared to standard oral hygiene instructions. The study aims to improve both oral hygiene and oral health literacy, which is a person's ability to understand and follow oral care advice. The study compares two groups: one receiving a mobile oral health intervention through 46 WhatsApp messages over 12 weeks alongside usual oral hygiene instructions, and another group receiving only the standard oral hygiene instructions. This randomized controlled trial is designed to see if the mobile messaging approach can better support orthodontic patients in managing their oral health. Participants will be monitored for changes in their oral health literacy and oral hygiene at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months. The study involves assessments before and after the intervention to measure improvements. Researchers will track how well participants understand oral care and maintain hygiene during orthodontic treatment, with the total follow-up lasting six months.
