Nasal Packing Duration and Its Role in the Development of Pharyngitis After Septorhinoplasty Surgery: A Prospective Observational Study

Researchers are investigating how the length of nasal packing after septorhinoplasty surgery affects the development of sore throat and pharyngitis. Septoplasty or septal reconstruction is a surgery to straighten the nasal septum, often leading to complications. Nasal packing is commonly used to minimize these, but it can impact swallowing and cause throat discomfort due to nasal congestion, mouth breathing, and throat dryness. This observational study will observe patients aged 20 to 40 undergoing septorhinoplasty. The focus is on the duration of nasal packing and its relationship to throat symptoms after surgery. The study does not involve experimental treatments but monitors postoperative outcomes related to sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and throat irritation. Participants will be assessed primarily for sore throat 48 hours after surgery, with secondary evaluations for swallowing difficulty and throat irritation at the same time. The study aims to understand how nasal packing affects these symptoms to improve patient comfort. The total study period extends through the postoperative observation, with no additional treatment interventions planned.
