Exploring Factors Affecting Assisted Vaginal Birth Practice Among Obstetricians in Three Major Egyptian Hospitals

The trial investigates the practice of assisted vaginal birth AVB among obstetricians in Egypt, aiming to understand factors influencing its use and to find practical solutions to increase AVB rates. The study addresses the rising cesarean section CS rates caused in part by limited experience with operative vaginal delivery, which is an important issue given Egypts high CS prevalence compared to global trends. This research targets obstetricians with varying experience levels to explore attitudes and perceptions about AVB in three major Egyptian hospitals. Participants in the trial will complete an online questionnaire survey designed to identify barriers to increasing AVB performance. The survey covers demographics, workload, AVB practice, obstetrician-related factors, service provision, and potential changes to improve AVB uptake. Data collection is conducted via a web-based platform and involves obstetricians from Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital, El Hussein University Hospital, and El Kasr Alaini Hospital. Obstetricians responses to the survey will be analyzed to assess obstacles to AVB practice. The primary outcome measures the factors preventing increased AVB performance over an average period of 4 months through the questionnaire. Participants will engage remotely by completing the survey, with no intervention administered. This observational study spans approximately 7 months from January to August 2026.
