Researchers are studying patients with cirrhosis caused by metabolic andor alcoholic steatotic liver disease to understand how various environmental and psychosocial factors, called the exposome, influence the development of hepatocellular carcinoma HCC, the main type of liver cancer. This study aims to clarify which factors contribute to the progression from cirrhosis to HCC, a process that is not well understood. The research highlights how pollutants, lifestyle, social conditions, and addictions may impact liver cancer risk alongside known causes like alcohol and diet. Participants will provide blood, urine, and stool samples to build a bio-collection that will allow detailed study of chemical and psychosocial exposures. The study includes two groups patients with cirrhosis without HCC and patients with cirrhosis complicated by HCC. Liver biopsies performed within two months before the study or planned as part of diagnosis are required. This is a non-randomized, interventional study focused on sample collection to explore these associations. During the study, participants will undergo baseline collection of biological samples including blood, urine, and feces. The research team will analyze these samples alongside patient data on nutrition, physical activity, socio-demographics, tobacco, alcohol use, and environmental exposures. The study is designed as a screening purpose trial, and participant involvement includes informed consent and sample provision to build the biocollection. The study is planned to run until March 2029, assessing factors that may influence HCC occurrence in cirrhotic patients.
