Carolina Senior Registry for Older Adults with Cancer at UNC Cancer Hospital Collecting Geriatric Assessments and Health Data for Future Research

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are collecting information from older patients who have appointments at the North Carolina Cancer Hospital to create a registry called Carolina Senior. This registry focuses on patients aged 65 and older, including those with various cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other specified adult solid tumors. The study aims to use this information to support future cancer research in older adults, excluding certain nonmelanoma skin cancers and specific prostate and cervical conditions. Patients participating in the study complete a detailed Geriatric Assessment GA that evaluates multiple aspects of their health, such as functional status, cognitive ability, psychological state, social support, medications, and nutrition. Their medical records are also reviewed, and their health status is tracked for up to one year. The study measures how well patients complete the GA, including their satisfaction with the process and the time needed to finish the assessment. During the study, participants are asked to complete the GA at their first clinic visit, and their medical records are reviewed to gather further information. The research team assesses factors like completion rates of the GA and patient satisfaction, as well as collecting data to support future research on older adults with cancer. Participation involves ongoing health status monitoring for up to four years, with a focus on creating a comprehensive registry to help understand cancer care in this population.
