What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying fractures of the proximal humerus, which are often difficult to classify due to the complex three-dimensional nature of the injury. Traditional methods rely on two-dimensional images, which can lead to disagreements in interpretation. This research evaluates the Edelson three-dimensional classification system, which aims to improve the reliability and consistency of fracture classification using high-resolution CT and 3-D CT images. There is limited large-scale application of this classification, so this study seeks to address that gap. The study involves patients with proximal humeral fractures who have CT scan data available. All patients with suitable imaging are included, and their fractures are classified using the Edelson system. This research is observational and retrospective, meaning no new treatments or interventions are given; instead, existing patient data is reviewed to assess fracture classification consistency. Participants will have their imaging and demographic data reviewed, focusing on three-dimensional reconstructions made with specialized software. The main outcome measured is the classification of fractures based on the Edelson system over the period from 2019 to 2022. This study helps researchers understand how well this classification works in practice and may aid orthopedic surgeons in better diagnosing and treating these injuries. Participation involves data review only, with no direct interventions or treatments provided by the study.
