Study of Indocyanine Green and Technetium 99 for Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Adults with Breast Cancer

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying sentinel lymph node detection in patients with breast cancer. The trial aims to compare the usual detection method using technetium 99 with a new tracer called indocyanine green to see how well each detects lymph nodes. This observational study is sponsored by the Omphis Foundation and includes patients who are candidates for sentinel lymph node detection. On the day of surgery, 1 ml of indocyanine green will be injected around the areola. After waiting 5 minutes, surgeons will detect and remove the lymph node using this tracer. The usual technique with technetium 99 will also be applied, and researchers will compare the number of lymph nodes detected by each method. Participants will undergo surgery where both tracers are used to find lymph nodes. Researchers will measure how many lymph nodes are found with each tracer, the number of positive lymph nodes, and the surgery duration in minutes. The study will include patients from January 2024 until January 2029, with ongoing monitoring of these outcomes throughout this period.
