What this Trial Is About

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common chronic joint disease causing cartilage loss, pain, stiffness, and reduced knee function, especially in adults aged 40 and older. This research compares two treatments for chronic KOA: extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), which uses acoustic pressure waves to promote tissue healing and reduce pain, and a structured exercise therapy program aimed at improving knee function and reducing symptoms. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one receiving extracorporeal shock wave therapy and the other following a structured exercise therapy program. Both treatments are non-invasive and focus on managing chronic knee pain and improving physical function. The study is designed to evaluate which approach better reduces pain and improves knee mobility over a 5-week period. During the study, participants will be evaluated for changes in pain intensity, stiffness, physical function, and knee range of motion five weeks after treatment. Researchers will also monitor any adverse events related to the therapies. The study involves regular assessments and aims to provide detailed information on the effectiveness and safety of these two physical therapy options for adults with chronic knee osteoarthritis.
