Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Aggressive periodontitis patients aged 20 to 35 years
- Radiographic evidence of at least 30% vertical bone loss at 2 or more tooth sites for aggressive periodontitis
- Classified as Stage III/IV, Grade C periodontitis for aggressive periodontitis
- With or without family history of periodontitis for aggressive periodontitis
- No significant local contributing factors like calculus or occlusal trauma for aggressive periodontitis
- Chronic periodontitis patients aged 30 to 40 years
- At least 3 sites with probing depth of 5 mm or more for chronic periodontitis
- Classified as Stage I/II, Grade A/B periodontitis for chronic periodontitis
- No significant family history for chronic periodontitis
- Disease mainly caused by local factors such as dental plaque or calculus for chronic periodontitis
- Healthy controls aged 20 to 40 years
- Radiographic exam shows no significant alveolar bone loss for healthy controls
- No clinical diagnosis of gingivitis or periodontitis for healthy controls
You will not qualify if you...
- Use of antibiotics within the past 3 months
- Smoking more than 10 cigarettes per day
- Uncontrolled severe diabetes with HbA1c level 6.7% or higher
- Planning pregnancy, currently pregnant, or breastfeeding
- Alcohol or drug addiction
- Long-term use of immunosuppressive drugs
- Infectious diseases such as hepatitis or AIDS/HIV
- History of cancer, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy within the past 5 years
