Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Patients who have survived critical illness, including severe COVID, and are at risk for mental health issues or long COVID
  • ICU stay longer than 48 hours or COVID requiring ICU care
  • Have a smartphone
  • Enrolled in the Mayo PICS clinic
  • Have at least one PICS-related impairment
  • If cognitive impairment is present, it must be mild to allow consent and following study instructions
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • History of dementia, mental retardation, or psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia
  • Patients not expected to survive the hospital stay
  • Non-English speaking
  • Unable to tolerate foods by mouth
  • Potential contraindications to fermented food diet, including chronic immunosuppression (such as organ transplant recipients), neutropenia, current chemotherapy, or use of Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
