Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Patients who have survived critical illness, including severe COVID, and are at risk for mental health issues or long COVID
- ICU stay longer than 48 hours or COVID requiring ICU care
- Have a smartphone
- Enrolled in the Mayo PICS clinic
- Have at least one PICS-related impairment
- If cognitive impairment is present, it must be mild to allow consent and following study instructions
You will not qualify if you...
- History of dementia, mental retardation, or psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia
- Patients not expected to survive the hospital stay
- Non-English speaking
- Unable to tolerate foods by mouth
- Potential contraindications to fermented food diet, including chronic immunosuppression (such as organ transplant recipients), neutropenia, current chemotherapy, or use of Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
