What this Trial Is About

This research focuses on patients with primary or metastatic tumors of the spine who undergo surgical treatment. Spinal tumors include rare primary tumors and more common metastases to the vertebral column seen in cancer patients, especially with improved survival rates. The study aims to collect detailed clinical data to better understand current surgical practices, patient outcomes, and the socio-economic impact of spinal tumors, ultimately improving treatment recommendations and quality of care. The study is a prospective registry collecting data electronically across hospital sites in Switzerland, with plans for future international collaboration. It includes patients undergoing various surgical treatments for spinal tumors, capturing information on clinical presentations and surgical approaches. The registry gathers long-term outcome data to fill gaps in knowledge about this heterogeneous condition. Participants are followed for about one year, during which their functional status is measured using the Karnofsky Performance Status Scale and physical performance assessed by the Timed-Up-and-Go-Test. Data collection involves routine clinical assessments and surgical details to evaluate treatment effectiveness and patient quality of life. The registry supports ongoing observation to inform future spinal oncology care and research.
