What this Trial Is About
Trichotillomania TTM is a condition marked by repeated hair pulling that causes hair loss and significant distress. Researchers are evaluating two digital health approaches to support adults with TTM using a randomized trial design. The study aims to compare the effects of these digital interventions on TTM symptoms over an 8-week period. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two 8-week interventions. One group receives a Keen2 bracelet that detects hair pulling motions and vibrates to prompt awareness, along with a smartphone app offering behavior therapy components like psychoeducation and competing response training. The other group uses a non-vibrating reminder bracelet paired with an app delivering general health tips and prompts for logging daily context. During the study, participants will use their assigned devices and apps for 8 weeks. Researchers will assess trichotillomania symptom severity at the study endpoint week 8 through clinician ratings and self-reports. Participants must have reliable internet and a compatible mobile phone. Safety is monitored by requiring a support person and excluding those with severe psychiatric conditions. The total participation lasts approximately 8 weeks from intervention start to final assessments.
