What this Trial Is About

The trial focuses on pregnant Black adolescent women aged 15 to 19 years enrolled in the WIC program within the Mississippi Delta region. Researchers are evaluating a 20-week digital health intervention called #BabyLetsMove, designed to improve cardiometabolic health by increasing physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior. This study aims to address health disparities in a high-risk rural population by combining mobile technology with peer health coaching delivered via telehealth. The intervention includes four main components: a Fitbit activity tracker, interactive self-monitoring text messages with personalized feedback, tailored skills training materials delivered by text, and peer health coaching provided by trained young adult WIC mothers. Participants will be guided to meet three behavior goals: limit television watching to under 2 hours daily, walk at least 10,000 steps per day, and engage in at least 20 minutes of organized exercise daily. Coaches provide support through telehealth to address social barriers and encourage behavior change. Participants will be assessed at baseline, 26 weeks, and 36 weeks of gestation. Researchers will monitor physical activity levels, sedentary behavior, weight gain patterns, and the acceptability and feasibility of the intervention. Data collection includes Fitbit tracking, response to text messages, and coaching session details. The study also evaluates the training of peer coaches and the intervention's impact on health behaviors and weight gain during pregnancy. Participation lasts through the pregnancy term with ongoing monitoring and support.
