Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Aged between 50 and 65 years
- For chronic cervical pain group: chronic neck pain caused by specific movements or prolonged posture
- Cervical pain lasting at least 3 months within the past year
- Average cervical pain intensity score of at least 3 on Numeric Pain Rating Scale over the past two weeks
- No use of anti-inflammatory or painkillers within 48 hours prior to the test
- For healthy group: matched gender, age, and body mass index with chronic pain group
- No cervical pain in the past 6 months
You will not qualify if you...
- Neurological diseases affecting tongue pressure such as stroke or Parkinson's disease
- Head or neck surgery within the past year
- Severe head or neck injuries in the past year (e.g., whiplash)
- Diagnosed cervical radiculopathy or myelopathy with symptoms like numbness or tingling, or failed related clinical tests
- History of head or neck deformities or cancer
- History of head or neck radiation therapy
- Diagnosed with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)
- Pain or restricted movement in the temporomandibular joint during chewing in the last 6 months
- Requires anticonvulsant or antidepressant medications
- Cognitive impairments preventing understanding of test procedures or communication
