What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying adolescents aged 6 to 18 in Zhejiang Province to understand the prevalence of scoliosis, other spinal deformities, myopia, and visual impairments. This observational study examines how spinal curvature and vision disorders change over eight years and explores their possible connections and risk factors. The study also aims to provide scoliosis health education and reduce scoliosis progression through early detection and intervention. Participants diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis will be observed in two groups: those with untreated myopia and those without myopia. The study will track spinal curve angles and trunk rotation at baseline, 24 months, 48 months, and up to 96 months after enrollment. Vision measurements like mean spherical equivalent, near-work duration, and axial length growth will also be recorded at similar intervals. During the study, participants will undergo regular assessments including spinal and vision exams, questionnaires about daily near-work activities, and eye imaging. Data will be collected and analyzed over the eight-year follow-up to monitor scoliosis progression and vision changes. The study's primary outcomes focus on scoliosis curve angle and trunk rotation, while secondary outcomes include vision-related measurements. This long-term monitoring aims to improve early detection and management of scoliosis and vision issues in adolescents.
