What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating a computer-based auditory training program called Sound Success, compared to the current standard of patient-directed auditory training, to improve speech recognition and cochlear implant-specific quality of life in new adult cochlear implant recipients during their first year post-activation. The study aims to understand which training method better supports communication and life quality for adults with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss who receive cochlear implants. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will use the Sound Success program, which is a free computer-based auditory training requiring registration and recommended usage of at least 30 minutes five times a week on a personal device. The other group will receive a list of common auditory training exercises representing the current standard of care. This behavioral intervention is designed to compare how these methods impact speech and quality of life over time. During the study, participants will be assessed at baseline, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months to measure changes in their cochlear implant quality of life using the Cochlear Implant Quality of Life-35 Profile. Researchers will collect data on speech recognition and quality-of-life improvements. The study is conducted without blinding and will continue through the first year after cochlear implant activation, allowing for detailed monitoring of participants' progress throughout this period.
