What this Trial Is About
This research aims to understand balance confidence, fear of movement (kinesiophobia), and related factors in people with idiopathic Parkinson's disease aged 50 to 80 years. The study involves 31 patients with Parkinson's disease at stages 1 to 3 on the Modified Hoehn-Yahr scale, along with 31 healthy volunteers. Researchers will collect sociodemographic information and assess mental and functional status using standardized tests like the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Movement Disorder Society Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS). Participants will not receive any intervention during the study. Instead, assessments will focus on measuring balance confidence using the Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale-6 (ABC-6), overall balance through the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), fear of falling via the Falls Efficacy Scale (FES), and levels of kinesiophobia using the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK). These measures will help compare and understand differences between Parkinson's patients and healthy volunteers. Throughout the study, participants will complete questionnaires and undergo evaluations to assess their balance, fear of falling, and mental status. The primary outcome measured at baseline is balance confidence using the ABC-6 scale. The study will monitor participants' functional abilities and psychological factors related to movement and balance, aiming to provide insight into challenges faced by individuals with Parkinson's disease.
