What this Trial Is About

Researchers are developing and initially testing a culturally adapted group intervention aimed at Black youth aged 12 to 17 who are at risk for suicide. The study focuses on evaluating whether this group approach is practical and well-received, as well as its early effects on reducing suicidal thoughts and behaviors. It also aims to improve protective factors like hope, positive ethnic identity, and support from family and peers. Participants will join a 10-week group intervention based on the Collaborative Assessment & Management of Suicidality (CAMS) model. The intervention is tailored to each participant's personal reasons for suicidal thoughts, helping them address these issues in a supportive group setting. Before and after the 10 weeks, participants will complete various assessments to measure changes related to suicidality and protective factors. Throughout the study, participants will complete assessments including the Suicide Status Form (SSF), Ethnic Identity Scale, Living Ladder Scale, and others, from before treatment until three months after finishing the group. These evaluations help researchers track the intervention's impact on suicidal thoughts, ethnic identity, hope, therapeutic relationships, and group cohesion. Participants and their caregivers will provide consent and assent to participate, and the total observation period spans about 22 to 23 weeks.
