What this Trial Is About
This research aims to study how well a gatekeeper training delivered through e-learning can be applied in the daily work of people working in prison. The study will also evaluate how the e-learning affects their knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions about suicide prevention, as well as their confidence in helping prisoners with suicidal thoughts or behaviors. This trial is sponsored by University Ghent and focuses on professionals working in detention settings. The training involves an e-learning module lasting 60 to 90 minutes, created specifically for the prison context. Participants first complete a questionnaire before starting the training. After finishing the e-learning, they complete a post-test questionnaire. A reminder email is sent three days later if the post-test is not completed. The training covers various topics including the prevalence of suicide, myths, recognizing signs, prevention strategies, and self-care for staff. Participants will be involved by completing questionnaires before and immediately after the e-learning. The main outcome measured is how applicable the training is in their practice, assessed up to three days after the pre-test. Secondary outcomes include changes in attitudes and self-efficacy related to suicide prevention. The study involves online consent, e-learning participation, and follow-up questionnaires, with the total time commitment focused around the training and assessments.
