What this Trial Is About
Venous thromboembolic disease VTE is a common and serious condition, especially in cancer patients where it increases the risk of mortality and complications. Researchers are investigating the recurrence risk and mechanisms of VTE among cancer patients, addressing uncertainties in diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. This prospective, single-center observational cohort study focuses on the association between cancer and VTE to better understand and manage this condition. Participants with cancer and a recent VTE episode will be included in one study group. Biological samples will be collected, including blood samples at inclusion and during any recurrence of thrombosis or hemorrhage, and urine samples once a year for five years. These samples will be used for analyses and to create a biobank for future research. During the study, participants will provide blood and urine samples and may be contacted annually via routine care visits, questionnaires by mail, or telephone. The research team will monitor VTE recurrence over five years as the primary outcome, as well as major bleeding events during anticoagulant treatment, mortality, and arterial events. The total study duration spans up to five years, with ongoing follow-up and sample collection to support comprehensive evaluation.
