What this Trial Is About
Researchers are establishing the Chinese Essential Tremor Registry (CETR) to create a detailed database of patients with Essential Tremor (ET) in China. ET is a common movement disorder affecting about 1% of the global population, characterized by isolated tremor in the upper limbs lasting at least 3 years. The study aims to explore the clinical features, genetic causes, environmental influences, and disease progression in a large Chinese ET cohort to better understand this complex syndrome. Participants will undergo baseline data collection including detailed medical history, lifestyle habits, medication use, family history, and exposure to potential toxins. Standardized neurological assessments will be performed, along with clinical rating scales such as The Essential Tremor Rating Assessment Scale (TETRAS) to measure tremor severity and impact on daily activities. Additional evaluations include cognitive tests, olfaction tests, depression scales, and the collection of DNA samples for genetic sequencing. Structural MRI scans will be conducted to exclude other brain issues. Throughout the study, participants will complete repeated questionnaires and assessments to monitor both motor and non-motor symptoms, including sleep disorders and restless leg syndrome. Researchers will use tools like the Non-motor Symptom Scale, Mini Mental State Examination, and various diagnostic criteria to evaluate symptoms and progression. The main outcomes focus on tremor severity and daily life impact, cognitive function, non-motor symptoms, and depression, with ongoing monitoring to understand natural disease history.
