Improving Health Check-Up Participation Among Elderly Women in Tamil Nadu Through Household Communication and Transportation Support

Researchers are investigating how communication within households influences elderly womens use of health check-ups in rural Tamil Nadu, India. The study aims to understand how different transportation supports and caretaker involvement affect interest and participation in health screenings. It includes a randomized evaluation of two interventions focused on informing either the elder alone or both the elder and caretaker, and on providing free transportation. The study involves four groups one where only the elder is informed without transportation support, one with elder informed plus free private transportation, one with both elder and caretaker informed without transportation, and one with both informed plus free transportation. These behavioral interventions are assessed to see their impact on the elderly womens health check-up attendance. Participants will be surveyed alongside their caretakers to measure demand and willingness to communicate about check-ups. Researchers will track sign-up rates three days after intervention, attendance one week later, and willingness to mention the check-up to the caretaker two days after intervention. The total study period includes these follow-ups, and study-related services such as transportation are monitored. Participation lasts from initial contact through the one-week follow-up.
