What this Trial Is About

Adhesive capsulitis, commonly known as frozen shoulder, is an inflammatory condition marked by shoulder stiffness, pain, and significant loss of passive range of motion. It affects about 2% to 5% of the general population, typically beginning around age 55. This research compares the effects of two physical therapy methods, the Spencer technique and the reverse distraction technique, in patients with adhesive capsulitis. The study randomly assigns 50 patients aged 40 to 60 into two groups. Group A will receive the Spencer technique, consisting of 3 sets of 10 repetitions with 1-minute rest between sets, administered 3 times per week for 6 weeks, with each session lasting 40 minutes. Group B will receive the reverse distraction technique, which includes 10 repetitions each of shoulder abduction, flexion, and external rotation, also delivered 3 times per week for 6 weeks with 40-minute sessions. Both groups will receive these treatments over a four-week protocol within the study timeline. Participants will be assessed before and after treatment for pain using a numerical pain rating scale, shoulder range of motion measured by a universal goniometer, shoulder pain and impairment via the SPADI questionnaire, and overall health quality through the SF-36 questionnaire. Data will be analyzed using statistical software to evaluate differences within and between groups. The entire study will be conducted over ten months at Ibne Sina Hospital, Multan.
