This research aims to develop and evaluate goal setting strategies using the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) for patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) who are critically ill children aged 1 to 18 years. The study focuses on patient-centered outcomes in a multi-phase mixed-methods approach led by Samsung Medical Center, involving experts and caregivers to improve care in this specialized setting. Participants will receive standard physical and occupational therapy as routinely provided in the PICU. This usual care may include training in daily activities, positioning, range of motion exercises, sensory stimulation, and caregiver education tailored to each child's condition. No experimental treatment is introduced; instead, the study evaluates the feasibility and acceptability of COPM-based goal setting. During the study, researchers will assess consensus among experts about COPM use through surveys, followed by pilot testing with caregivers and PICU clinicians. They will measure client-centeredness of goal setting and caregiver perceptions immediately after the pilot. Participation involves receiving routine therapy, completing questionnaires about goal setting, and monitoring outcomes within the PICU stay. The estimated timeline for surveys is 2-3 weeks, while pilot outcomes are assessed upon intervention completion.
