What this Trial Is About
Researchers are conducting a study to adapt and test a web-based app called myPlan Thailand, designed to support friends and family members of survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) in Thailand. The study addresses the high prevalence of IPV in Thailand and aims to empower those who first seek help for survivors. This research will take place in two phases over four years, focusing on tailoring the app to Thai cultural context and then evaluating its feasibility and acceptability through a randomized controlled trial. The study involves two groups: one using the WeSafe (myPlan Thailand) app, which provides personalized safety plans, educational materials, and support strategies based on user input and cultural considerations; the other group receives usual-care safety planning information through a publicly available Thai domestic violence learning app. The WeSafe app includes features such as risk assessment, priority setting, and resources for self-care and child safety. The trial will compare these two approaches to understand their impact on knowledge, attitudes, empowerment, and distress related to supporting IPV survivors. Participants will be involved for up to six months, with assessments at baseline, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months. Researchers will collect data on changes in IPV knowledge and attitudes, empowerment to support survivors safely, supportive behaviors, and any emotional distress experienced by friends and family members. Feasibility and acceptability of the app will also be evaluated. The study is designed to support the development of future research and improve support for IPV survivors through their social networks.
