Study of Virtual Reality Headsets with Hypnotic Scenarios to Help Hygiene Care for Adults with Alzheimers Disease or Related Disorders and Behavioral Issues

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the use of a device that combines a virtual reality VR headset with hypnotic scenarios to help reduce anxiety and opposition during hygiene care in patients with Alzheimers Disease or Related Disorders ADRD who exhibit behavioral and psychological symptoms. The study aims to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of this VR headset approach compared with standard care for managing behavioral disturbances during hygiene care. Participants will receive either the VR headset intervention, which projects immersive 3D images and delivers a hypnotic narrative during hygiene and toileting care, or they will receive standard behavioral management as typically used in their care settings. This is a controlled trial without randomization or masking. The intervention period and assessments will last up to five weeks. During the study, participants will be monitored for the effectiveness of the VR headset in reducing behavioral symptoms, the number of patients with improved quality of life, and any changes in the use of psychotropic drugs. The study involves residents of the St-Victor center including nursing home and long-term care units. Safety and outcome measures will be collected throughout the intervention period to evaluate the devices impact on managing behavioral disturbances.
