What this Trial Is About
This research aims to understand the factors parents consider when deciding whether to enroll their child in therapeutic clinical trials within a pediatric cancer network. It focuses on describing the social and demographic characteristics of patients, assessing parents' attitudes and decision-making factors, and exploring how these relate to clinical trial enrollment. The study also evaluates a parent navigator program designed to support families during this decision process. Participants will complete surveys on demographics, social determinants, and attitudes toward clinical trials. Some parents will take part in qualitative interviews to discuss their experiences and preferences in depth. The study includes a pilot parent navigator program where trained parent navigators provide support and information to newly diagnosed families over a six-week period, with interactions via phone or text. Throughout the study, researchers will collect data from surveys, interviews, and program questionnaires to assess social factors, decision-making influences, and the acceptability and feasibility of the navigator program. Parent navigators will record contact details and complete evaluation forms, while parents will provide feedback on their satisfaction. The study outcomes include measuring sociodemographic traits, enrollment decisions related to social and attitudinal factors, and the effectiveness of the navigator support over approximately four years.
