Diabetes Registry Graz to Study Biomarkers in Adults with Various Types of Diabetes, Obesity, and Lipid Disorders

Researchers are studying a group of people with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, rare types of diabetes, obesity, and lipid metabolism disorders to collect health data and biological samples over time. This observational study aims to find new biomarkers that can help better predict treatment responses and future complications related to diabetes and obesity. The study is conducted by the Medical University of Graz and focuses on improving understanding of cardiovascular risks that current models do not fully explain. Participants include those diagnosed with various types of diabetes or obesity, and no treatments or interventions are given as part of the study. Instead, data and biological samples such as blood and urine are collected at the beginning and then annually. The registry began in 2015 and plans to follow participants for up to 20 years to identify and validate biomarkers. During the study, participants will have yearly visits where medical history, diagnoses, medications, and biological samples are collected. Researchers will monitor these data continuously to identify new biomarkers. The long-term follow-up allows a detailed and ongoing assessment of health changes over time. Participants involvement may last up to two decades, with no intervention treatments, focusing mainly on observation and sample collection.
