What this Trial Is About
This research aims to evaluate a new family intervention called Dialogical Family Guidance (DFG), designed specifically for families with a child diagnosed with neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, Tourette, Autism, and OCD. The study focuses on families with children aged 4 to 13 years and seeks to understand the effectiveness of DFG in different healthcare settings, including university hospitals and basic level units. This postdoctoral study builds on previous findings that highlighted the importance of providing families with guidance, information, and a space to share experiences and concerns. The DFG intervention involves six meetings over three months, where family members discuss their individual needs and questions with trained professionals. Before using DFG, professionals complete a three-day education program. Families participating in the intervention group receive these meetings, while a comparative group does not receive the intervention but provides feedback on managing daily life with a child who has neurodevelopmental disorders. Parents complete questionnaires before and after the intervention to capture changes. Participants will be involved by attending the six DFG meetings if assigned to the intervention group and by filling out questionnaires at the start and end of the three-month period. The main outcome measure is the FAFHES questionnaire, collected at 0 and 3 months, with additional assessments including the DFG questionnaire and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ-p) related to the child. The study runs from January 2024 to December 2027, with careful monitoring of family experiences and intervention effects.
