What this Trial Is About
This research investigates how different treatments affect lumbar and ankle proprioception, balance, and foot function in adults with chronic ankle instability. It explores the combined effects of core stability training and intrinsic foot muscle exercises with conventional therapy, as well as the individual impacts of each intervention compared to conventional treatment alone. The study aims to improve rehabilitation strategies by addressing both proximal and distal factors contributing to ankle instability. Participants are randomly assigned to one of four groups conventional physical therapy alone, core stability training plus conventional therapy, intrinsic foot muscle exercises plus conventional therapy, or a combination of core stability training and intrinsic foot muscle exercises alongside conventional therapy. Each group undergoes 18 exercise sessions over six weeks, with three sessions per week. Core stability training is structured in three progressive phases over six weeks, while intrinsic foot muscle exercises progress from sitting to standing on one leg. During the study, participants are assessed at baseline and after six weeks for balance, lumbar proprioception, ankle proprioception, and foot function. The therapy includes stretching, strengthening, and balance exercises tailored to improve neuromuscular control and postural stability. Researchers aim to compare the effectiveness of these different treatment protocols in enhancing sensorimotor control and reducing the risk of recurrent ankle injuries.
