Impact of Inhaler Medication on Oral Health in Adults with COPD A Randomized Controlled Study

This research aims to evaluate the effect of oral health education on individuals diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease COPD who use inhaled medication. The study compares an intervention group receiving mouth care training to a control group without education to understand how inhaler use impacts oral health. The study is conducted by ankr Karatekin University and focuses on patients with mild to severe COPD stages as defined by the GOLD report. Participants will be randomly divided into two groups. The intervention group, consisting of 40 patients, will receive training on how to care for their mouths after using inhaled medication. The control group will not receive this education. The training and data collection sessions are conducted face-to-face and last about 20 to 25 minutes. Oral health will be evaluated at the start of the study and again three months after the intervention. Throughout the study, participants will answer questionnaires to provide data on their oral health and medication adherence. Researchers will ensure all questions are answered during the sessions. The primary outcome measure is the oral health status assessed using the Oral Assessment Guide at baseline and three months later. Medication adherence will also be measured using a specific reporting scale. The total participation duration includes the initial assessment and a follow-up after three months to evaluate the impact of the training.
