What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the effects of Kinect-based exergaming compared to Wii Fit balance training on reducing fall risk and improving balance in healthy older adults. This randomized controlled trial focuses on parameters such as fall incidence, as well as static, dynamic, and anticipatory balance. The study involves community-dwelling older adults aged 55 to 85 years with mild to moderate fall risk. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group will undergo Kinect-based exergaming using four interactive mini-games from the Kinect Adventures collection, and the other group will receive Wii Fit balance training involving four selected games. Both interventions last for 6 weeks, with training sessions held three days per week, each lasting 40 to 50 minutes including warm-up and cool-down exercises. Progression in training depends on participant comfort and performance. Throughout the study, participants' balance and fall risk will be assessed before and after the 6-week training using tools like the Biodex Balance System, Berg Balance Scale, Falls Efficacy Scale, and Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Researchers will monitor postural stability, dynamic balance, cognition, and concern about falling. Data will be analyzed to compare the effects of the two training methods on balance and fall risk among older adults.
