What this Trial Is About

This research aims to evaluate various health aspects in children aged 6 to 18 years with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a chronic progressive disease characterized by high blood pressure in the lungs. The study focuses on comparing pulmonary function, respiratory muscle strength, exercise capacity in upper and lower limbs, muscle oxygenation, breathlessness, peripheral muscle strength, arterial stiffness, physical activity levels, and balance between children with PAH and healthy children of the same age and sex. Additionally, the relationship between upper limb exercise capacity, arterial stiffness, and muscle strength is explored. This cross-sectional study includes at least 13 children diagnosed with PAH and at least 13 healthy controls matched by age and sex. Participants will undergo a series of assessments over two days, including spirometry for lung function, mouth pressure measurements for respiratory muscle strength, the six-minute Peg Board Ring Test for upper limb exercise capacity, and the six-minute walk test for lower limb exercise capacity. Muscle oxygenation will be monitored using a specialized device, while breathlessness will be assessed with the modified Borg Scale. Peripheral muscle strength, arterial stiffness, physical activity, and static balance will also be measured using appropriate devices and tests. During the study, children will be evaluated through various tests and monitored for exercise capacity and muscle oxygenation on the first day. Researchers will collect and analyze data on physical and respiratory health, muscle strength, and arterial stiffness. The study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of PAH on children's physical abilities and cardiovascular health compared to healthy peers. All assessments are completed within two days, ensuring thorough and careful monitoring of each participant.
