Researchers are investigating the causes and characteristics of fever, especially non-malarial fever, in Guinea. The study aims to better document the symptoms and laboratory findings of febrile illnesses, which are currently not well understood due to limited diagnostic resources. This observational study focuses on patients visiting emergency and outpatient departments in selected health centers and hospitals across different regions of Guinea. Participants are monitored over a 21-day period to track symptoms, laboratory results, diagnoses, and treatment patterns, including antibiotic use. The study collects data at the initial visit and during follow-up to understand the progression of the illness, hospital admissions, and patient outcomes. The study also examines factors like white blood cell counts, C-reactive protein levels, and seasonal and geographical variations associated with fever. During the study, participants undergo symptom assessments and laboratory tests at the start and follow-up visits. Researchers record medication use, hospital admissions, and survival status at day 21. The study evaluates multiple outcome measures to gain a comprehensive understanding of febrile illnesses in the community, including identification of epidemic-prone infections and timely reporting to health authorities.
