French National Study of Long-Term Health and Social Outcomes in Childhood Solid Tumor Survivors Diagnosed Before Age 19 and Before 2000

Researchers are conducting a large national study in France to follow children who were treated for solid tumors before the year 2000 and under the age of 19. The study aims to improve understanding of the long-term health and social effects caused by cancer and its treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It focuses on estimating risks of adverse outcomes and finding ways to provide better follow-up care for survivors. Participants medical records are reviewed to estimate the doses of radiation and chemotherapy received, and the study collects information from national registries and self-reported questionnaires about survivors health status, social conditions, and quality of life. The study also uses data from the French National Health Insurance system to track health expenses and care. The cohort will be followed for up to 20 years starting from 2011. During the study, researchers monitor all health events over time since the diagnosis of childhood cancer. Data collected include vital status, causes of death, social factors, and health care use. The study has already identified increased risks of secondary cancers and other diseases linked to treatments. Participants provide consent and allow access to health data, and the research aims to help identify survivors at higher risk to improve their long-term care.
