What this Trial Is About

Researchers are investigating how frontal and axial back asymmetry relates to self-perceived body image in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. This observational study focuses on patients aged 11 to 18 years diagnosed with moderate scoliosis, characterized by a Cobb angle between 25 and 45 degrees, and a major thoracic curve. The study aims to understand the connection between physical spinal deformities and body image satisfaction using specific assessment tools. Participants will undergo evaluation using BACKSCNR, a non-invasive device that measures deviations in frontal and axial back asymmetry through optical scanning technology without radiation. Self-body image will be assessed with the Trunk Appearance Perception Scale (TAPS) questionnaire, which evaluates participants' satisfaction with their body image. This study involves one group of adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. During the study, researchers will measure frontal plane back asymmetry, axial trunk deviations, and self-perceived body image at the start of participation. The assessments help to understand how spinal shape variations relate to participants' body image. The total study duration and follow-up details are not specified, but the primary measurements occur at baseline. The study is sponsored by Al Hayah University In Cairo and is scheduled to start in September 2025.
