What this Trial Is About

Syncope, which is a common cause of temporary loss of consciousness, and falls, especially in older adults, are closely linked. This research aims to assess how well a comprehensive diagnostic protocol based on guidelines works for managing fainting and unexplained falls in patients referred to specialized outpatient clinics. The study seeks to bridge the gap between scientific evidence and clinical practice to reduce misdiagnosis, unnecessary tests, hospital stays, and costs. Participants aged 40 years and older who experience an episode of fainting or unexplained falls will be evaluated using a diagnostic pathway developed from guidelines by the European Society of Cardiology and geriatrics societies. This involves a systematic assessment of fainting and falls using a standardized clinical flow pathway at dedicated outpatient facilities. The study will analyze diagnostic adherence, final diagnoses, and care costs across different age groups. Throughout the study, patients will undergo this guideline-based evaluation to track the prevalence of unexplained falls, compare diagnostic and management approaches between syncope and fall groups, and monitor costs related to the diagnostic protocols. Researchers will follow participants for up to one year to measure outcomes such as unexplained falls, final diagnoses, and protocol costs. The study is observational and involves no experimental treatments.
