What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating a collaborative care model called PPP-CCM to improve access to direct-acting antivirals DAAs for treating Hepatitis C HCV among residents of permanent supportive housing PSH buildings in Seattle and King County. This pragmatic implementation trial uses a cluster randomized design, comparing the PPP-CCM intervention to usual care in 16 housing buildings over 12 months, followed by universal access to PPP-CCM. The study collects data through a longitudinal cohort of people who test positive for HCV, with surveys and medical record reviews at baseline, 12 months, and 24 months. The intervention involves pharmacists, physicians, and patient navigators working together under Collaborative Practice Agreements to provide DAAs for HCV, as well as pre-exposure prophylaxis PrEP for HIV and naloxone for overdose prevention. Half of the buildings will have PPP-CCM access while the others receive usual care for 12 months. All buildings will have point-of-care HCV screening available for the first 6 months. After 12 months, all buildings will have access to the PPP-CCM model. Participants are residents of the PSH buildings who have tested positive for HCV. They will be monitored through surveys and medical record reviews at baseline, 12 months, and 24 months. Researchers will measure outcomes such as HCV evaluation, treatment initiation and completion, sustained virologic response, and injection drug use. The study lasts from June 2026 to June 2029, with primary outcome data collected at 12 months and follow-up continuing to 24 months.
