Researchers are investigating how maternal microbiota during pregnancy and the early-life microbiota colonization of their children affect health outcomes later in life. This observational study explores the interactions between host genes and microbiota, environmental factors, and their role in diseases like allergies, obesity, neurodevelopmental delays, and pregnancy complications. The goal is to better understand disease development and support new strategies to predict and prevent illnesses in children born in Guangzhou, China. The study does not involve any treatment or intervention. It follows pregnant women and their children over time, monitoring maternal and infant microbiota and health. Data collection includes multiple time points ranging from pregnancy through childhood, up to 18 years of age. Researchers observe children's neurodevelopment, immune system development, metabolism, and the impact of maternal microbiota during pregnancy and postpartum. Participants will be involved through periodic health assessments at various ages including 42 days, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, and beyond up to 18 years. These assessments include tracking childhood and maternal diseases, neurodevelopment evaluations, and metabolic health checks such as glucose and lipid metabolism. The study involves collecting biological samples like blood and stool and monitoring health outcomes over a long period to analyze the relationship between microbiota and later health consequences.
