What this Trial Is About

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a serious brain disorder marked by gradual memory loss and declining thinking skills. It affects millions worldwide and is expected to increase significantly. Since AD currently has no prevention or cure, early detection is vital. Researchers aim to find biomarkers to improve early diagnosis and better understand the stages of AD, focusing on a local Chinese population in this observational study. Participants in this study will undergo various tests at the start, including cognitive assessments, blood tests, brain MRI and PET scans, and retinal imaging. There are four groups based on cognitive status, ranging from normal cognition to moderate or severe impairment. Follow-ups occur yearly for six years, with cognitive assessments each year and additional retinal imaging at the sixth year. During the study, participants will complete cognitive tests repeatedly, and researchers will measure brain changes using imaging and blood markers. They will track changes in memory and thinking skills over time using tests like the Hong Kong List Learn Test and Clinical Dementia Rating. Safety and health will be monitored throughout the six-year period, helping to evaluate the potential of these biomarkers in identifying and staging Alzheimer's disease early.
