Improving Oral Health Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Through Education in Male Primary School Children Aged 10 to 11 in Al-Lith, Saudi Arabia

Dental caries is a major public health problem worldwide, especially affecting childrens health, development, and well-being. This study evaluates a school-based oral health education program in Al Lith City, Saudi Arabia, targeting boys aged 10 to 11 years. The goal is to improve knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to oral hygiene and eating habits through a cluster randomized controlled trial involving four primary schools. The research aims to address gaps in oral health knowledge and practices that impact childrens overall health. The intervention consists of interactive classroom sessions led by a dental care professional over one school month. The first session focuses on building knowledge and positive attitudes about oral health, while the second session teaches behavioral skills to improve oral hygiene and eating habits. Participants receive take-home educational materials. Effectiveness is measured by comparing questionnaire results before, immediately after, and six months following the program. Participants complete questionnaires assessing their oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices at three time points baseline, 8 weeks post-intervention, and 16 weeks post-intervention. Additional measures include self-efficacy and social support. Researchers analyze data using statistical methods to determine the programs impact. The study runs from March 2024 to August 2027 and includes safety monitoring of participants health and attendance throughout the intervention period.
