AI-Summary

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying the psychosexual burden experienced by adults with chronic perianal diseases, such as perianal abscesses, anal fistulae, perianal Crohn's disease, and pilonidal cysts. These conditions often cause pain and chronic drainage, but their effects on personal life, intimacy, and body image are less recognized. This observational study aims to better understand how surgical devices, disease causes, and symptoms influence sexual function and self-esteem, addressing gaps in communication about sexual health between patients and doctors. Participants include adults diagnosed with chronic perianal conditions who are receiving standard care without any experimental treatments. The study involves a one-time assessment using questionnaires like the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) for men, the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI-6) for women, and a special Patient-Reported Outcome Measure (PROM) to evaluate body esteem, anxiety about pain, and the impact of seton drains. The study also examines whether doctors discuss sexual health during counseling. During the study visit, participants provide demographic and clinical information and complete the sexual function and psychosexual impact questionnaires. Researchers measure intimacy distress scores, the effect of setons, differences between disease types, and specific challenges related to anal intercourse. The study aims to recruit 50-80 patients and analyze data to better understand the psychosocial effects of perianal disease, with no additional interventions or follow-up required.
