Social, emotional, and behavioral (SEB) problems are common among elementary school students and can greatly affect their success in school. These issues have worsened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This research focuses on testing the Helping Educational Leaders Mobilize Evidence (HELM) strategy to improve how schools implement a proven program called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) that supports students' social and emotional health. The study compares two approaches: the standard PBIS program and PBIS combined with the HELM strategy. PBIS is a team-based framework that helps schools create supports for student behavior and social health. HELM aims to strengthen leadership and improve how faithfully PBIS is delivered in schools. The trial randomly assigns schools to use either PBIS alone or PBIS with HELM. Participants include educators from public elementary schools in Washington State committed to using PBIS. Researchers will assess how well PBIS is implemented and look at factors like leadership, school climate, student behavior, academic engagement, attendance, and disciplinary incidents. These assessments occur at the start and again at 9 and 12 months to understand the impact of the HELM strategy over time.
