Study on Intimate Partner Violence Among Adults Who Inject Drugs in Stockholm Exploring Prevalence, Risk Factors, and Experiences of Abuse

Researchers are investigating intimate partner violence IPV among people who inject drugs PWID, focusing especially on women who inject drugs WWID in Stockholm, Sweden. The study aims to understand how common different types of IPV are among this group and explore their experiences, needs, and preferences for support. This research addresses a gap in knowledge about IPV exposure in PWID, a population at high risk for health and social challenges, including blood borne infections and psychiatric disorders. Participants are PWID aged 18 and older who are enrolled in the needle and syringe program NSP in Stockholm. The study does not involve any intervention instead, participants will complete questionnaires and interviews guided by an interview guide. The NSP provides various health services such as testing for infections, vaccinations, wound care, and counseling, and this study builds on those services to examine IPV exposure. During the study, participants will be asked about their experiences with physical, psychological, sexual, and financial IPV over the past year. Researchers will measure how many participants report each type of IPV. The study will collect data through questionnaires and interviews to better understand IPV prevalence and support needs. Participation involves responding to questions and sharing personal experiences, with the goal of informing future tailored support and prevention programs for people affected by IPV in this vulnerable population.
