Researchers are gathering information to create a registry of older patients with cancer who have appointments at the North Carolina Cancer Hospital. This research focuses on patients aged 65 and older and aims to collect detailed health data to support future studies in cancer care for this population. The study involves completing a comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (GA) to evaluate various aspects of patients' health. Participants complete a multidimensional Geriatric Assessment that looks at their ability to live independently, other medical conditions, cognitive function, psychological status, social support, medications, and nutrition. Medical records are also reviewed, and patients' health status is tracked for one year to contribute to the registry. During the study, patients complete the GA, which includes tests like the Timed Up and Go Assessment, cognitive tests, and performance status evaluations. Researchers measure how many patients complete the GA, how long it takes, and patient satisfaction with the assessment. The registry will collect and organize this information over four years to improve understanding and care for older adults with cancer.
