What this Trial Is About
Age-related macular degeneration AMD is a leading cause of blindness in people over 50, significantly affecting daily life and quality of life. This research focuses on evaluating the medical and economic aspects of anti-VEGF treatments for patients newly diagnosed with neovascular AMD, comparing drugs such as Bevacizumab, Ranibizumab, and Aflibercept, within the French healthcare context. The study considers existing evidence showing Bevacizumabs cost-effectiveness and clinical efficacy compared to other therapies. Participants will receive intravitreal injections of either Bevacizumab, Ranibizumab, or Aflibercept, initially administered monthly for three months. After this initial period, the frequency of injections is determined by the treating physician. The study also includes two related evaluations a micro-costing study of Bevacizumab preparation in hospital pharmacies and a multicenter assessment of quality of life and patient costs based on visual acuity levels. Follow-up consultations occur monthly over six months and then at 12 months. Throughout the study, participants will undergo regular consultations before each injection to monitor for adverse reactions. Researchers will assess treatment adherence, tolerance, costs, and quality of life via questionnaires and clinical evaluations, including visual acuity measurements. The primary outcome is a cost-utility analysis of treatment management over 12 months, complemented by evaluations of injection preparation costs and quality of life using the HUI 3 questionnaire. The total participation spans at least 12 months with ongoing safety and effectiveness monitoring.
