What this Trial Is About
Appendiceal cancer is a rare type of cancer that often spreads to the lining of the abdomen, leading to serious illness and poor survival. This research aims to better understand the genetic changes in appendiceal cancer, especially how the cancer spreads and how these changes relate to treatments and patient outcomes. The study seeks to identify genetic patterns that might help predict survival and guide more personalized treatments. The study involves analyzing stored tumour tissue samples taken from patients who have already undergone cytoreductive surgery for appendiceal cancer with peritoneal metastases. Researchers will perform genetic and transcriptomic tests on these archived samples from both the primary tumour and the metastatic sites to compare the mutations present. This analysis is retrospective, using tissue collected during standard care. Participants will have previously donated tissue to an institutional biobank or have a consent waiver if deceased without biobank consent. The study will examine genetic mutations over two years and correlate findings with clinical data such as treatments received and survival times. There is no direct treatment or intervention during this study, and it focuses on genetic characterization to improve understanding and future treatment options for appendiceal cancer.
