What this Trial Is About
Thyroid Associated Ophthalmopathy (TAO) is an autoimmune eye condition that causes enlargement of eye muscles and increased volume of fatty and connective tissues around the eyes, affecting appearance and vision. Common symptoms include bulging eyes, eyelid changes, and muscle movement issues. This research aims to evaluate how well doxycycline works in treating TAO using multiple imaging methods for better accuracy than traditional measurements. Participants in this study will take doxycycline tablets orally at a dose of 100 mg daily. The study is a prospective cohort design focusing on patients with TAO. Researchers will use advanced imaging techniques, including MRI, to assess changes in eye muscle size and orbital fat volume over six months. During the study, participants will undergo imaging tests and physical measurements of eye features such as eyelid position and bulging. Researchers will track changes in quality of life and eye symptoms at six months. The main outcome is the change in extraocular muscle and orbital fat volumes measured by MRI. This study helps improve assessment and treatment monitoring for TAO over a six-month period.
