What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating how adenomyosis, a benign gynecological condition affecting women aged 20 to 50 years, is currently managed in clinical practice. The study focuses on understanding treatment choices and how long patients continue their prescribed therapies. Adenomyosis is characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue within the uterine muscle and often causes chronic pelvic pain and heavy menstrual bleeding. This multicenter observational cohort study aims to gather real-world data on treatment approaches and factors influencing therapy decisions across multiple Italian clinical centers. The study is non-interventional, meaning treatments are prescribed as usual by doctors and not assigned by the study. Women diagnosed with adenomyosis by ultrasound, MRI, or histology and experiencing significant symptoms will be followed for a year. Data on prescribed treatments, their effectiveness, and persistence will be collected at baseline, 3, 6, and 12 months. About 200 patients will be enrolled from 20 centers during a 12-month recruitment period. Participants will have regular visits to assess symptoms using validated questionnaires and undergo transvaginal ultrasound exams along with blood tests for ferritin and hemoglobin levels. Treatment adherence and any side effects will be monitored through interviews. The main outcome is to describe the types of treatments used and how patients respond over time. The study will provide valuable information to guide future care and recommendations for women with adenomyosis.
